How To Resize Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnails

One of the great new features in Windows 7 is Aero Peak ( click here for more on Aero Features ) which allows you to see a preview of a window by hovering over it in the task bar. However, for users with large high resolution monitors, they may find it difficult to make out these thumbnails and they can be pretty useless

New Hard Drives May Force XP Users To Upgrade To Windows 7

Windows XP was released back in 2001 and now it’s beginning to start showing its age. Apart from the rather outdated user interface, compared to Windows 7 at least, Windows XP is now beginning to suffer from advances in hardware. While you may think that newer hardware makes Windows XP run faster, well it may be the case sometimes, but not now

Windows Browser Ballot, What really happens

So the rollout has begun and every PC user in Europe running XP, Vista or Windows 7 will shortly see the new browser ballot screen, if they’ve not seen it already.  Last night I got my update and along with it, a few surprises. The first surprise was the apparent optionality of the update.  In Windows update Microsoft Browser Choice Screen Update for EEA Users of Windows was unticked.  Presumably this would only remain so for a short period of time before it becomes mandatory.   Upon restarting my PC, which wasn’t required, I was faced with both a notice about the ballot screen and a new icon on my desktop

New Hard Drive Technology Boosts Windows 7, Slows XP

Hard drive manufacturers are set to improve the speed, capacity, and power consumption of their drives by 2011. While this technology will benefit users of Windows 7 and other modern operating systems, Windows XP users may actually be facing a performance hit by using the new drives. This technology improvement, called Advanced Format Architecture (at least by Western Digital), is mandated by an agreement of the International Disk Drive Equipment and Materials Association, which says that by 2011 all hard drive makers must sell drives using 4 kilobyte sectors instead of 512 byte sectors, the current default

Pin Folders And Files To The Windows 7 Taskbar

The taskbar in Windows 7 offers a feature to pin programs to it so that they are always accessible from there. It uses the same principle that shortcuts use with the difference that the programs are added to the taskbar instead and that they might offer additional functionality depending on the developer’s support of additional taskbar features. It is however not possible to add anything but an executable file to the Windows 7 Taskbar.
